The primacy of the groups of musicians and flag-wavers still stands City of Piazza Armerina which on Sunday 9th June in Piazza Castello, in front of the public for special occasions, saw the awarding of the Sicilian Region Trophy of Mediterranean Grand Prix to the yellow and blacks of the Monte Mira Noble Neighborhood Committee. The prestigious regional competition, included within the XVI Infiorata Città di Castelbuono, saw groups of musicians, flag-wavers and drummers from all over Sicily compete to win the coveted Sicilian Region trophy “Mediterranean Grand Prix”.
Delegations from Monforte San Giorgio “Katabba”, from Cammarata “Universitas Terrae Cammaratae”, from San Filippo del Mela “Alma Ritmo”, from Milazzo “Antico Borgo” took part in the “Gran Historical Procession of the Ventimiglia Princes of Castelbuono”. from Castelvetrano “La Perla Imperiale” and the procession of magistrates, ladies and archers from Piazza Armerina who paraded among thousands of visitors who acted as a backdrop along the entire route that crossed the medieval historic center of Castelbuono.
At the “Mediterranean Grand Prix” the Musicians and Flag-wavers of Floridia, the Noble Quartiere Monte Mira of Piazza Armerina, the Musicians and Flag-wavers “La Conca d’Oro” of Mazzarino, the Tamburi of the Sicularagonensia association of Randazzo, the Flag-wavers of the Sicularagonensia association of Randazzo, the Musicians and Flag-wavers Città di Randazzo, the Musicians and Flag-wavers of Castelvetrano della Perla Imperiale, transporting spectators on an evocative journey through time.
Once the performances of the competing groups have ended and after a careful and difficult evaluation by the Jury chaired by Rosalinda Lucido of the regional Agriculture Department and composed of the extraordinary commissioner of the Madonie Park Salvatore Caltagirone, the tourism councilor of the Municipality of Castelbuono Dario Guarcello, the school director Antonella Cancila, Mariaenza Puccia, president of the Civic Museum and Lia Romè, the prestigious Trophy was awarded to the group of Musicians and Flag-wavers Noble Committee Monte Mira District of Piazza Armerina, already winner of the trophy in 2022 and placed second in 2023, an edition won last year by the Musicians of the Magistrate of Piazza Armerina.
In second place, with very little gap, were the Musicians and Flag-wavers of Floridia, in third place with very little gap the Musicians and Flag-wavers “La Conca d’Oro” of Mazzarino and in fourth place the Musicians and Flag-wavers of Castelvetrano. The president of the cultural association Madonie promo and of the Regional Federation of Sicilian Historical Identity Johnny Lagrua and the Jury thanked and honored the presidents of all the groups who took part in the event with local ceramic plates and packs of sweets offered by the renowned Paolo Forti biscuit factory, contributing with their presence to the great success of the Castelbuono Medieval Festival making thousands of visitors aware of the history, culture, tradition, habits and customs of our Sicily.
