“After the ballots, a common construction site for the program began immediately”

A signal came from the last European elections in Liguria, with a victory for the Democratic Party in the provinces of Genoa and La Spezia, and again in the cities of Genoa (where the progressives combined totaled 52%), Savona and La Spezia, while in the municipality of Imperia came in behind FdI by a few dozen votes and is also second at a regional level with a gap of not even 0.50 percentage points.

After these results came the appeal from the former PD minister Andrea Orlando, from La Spezia, one of the names in pole position for some time for a possible candidacy for the next regional elections: for the Dem, after the ballots, it is necessary to immediately establish a common construction site with the progressives for the program of the next regional elections and insist on the resignation of president Toti, currently under house arrest as a result of the maxi investigation into corruption in Liguria.

“It must be prevented that FdI, the true referee of the Toti match – said Orlando in an interview with Repubblica – from making his own national political calculation on the skin of the Ligurians. Meloni wants to avoid the possibility of a national round that is too unfavorable perhaps with the regional elections in Umbria, Emilia-Romagna and Liguria, and manages the Ligurian case accordingly to the detriment of the interests of Liguria, from the implementation of the Pnrr to the health disaster”.

And therefore “we will work with all the forces available to act to unblock the political situation and then discuss the programmatic priorities by checking whether there are common proposals, a program to build and grow in the common initiative aimed at society”. While Orlando on the political front already sees a natural convergence between the opposition in the Region (including Action), the challenge for the former minister will also be to involve other forces, not just political ones, to change pace in Liguria.
