Bomb alert at Florence station, checks on a Frecciarossa heading to Milan: disruption to train circulation

An email reporting the presence of an explosive device on board a high-speed train stopped at the Frienze Santa Maria Novella station and headed to Milan paralyzed train traffic on some tracks of the Tuscan airport for several minutes. The anonymous message was sent to the Ferrovie dello Stato email address around 4pm and the operators then reported the bomb threat to the police. Around platform 9, where the Frecciarossa stopped, traffic was banned, not only for trains but also for commuters. The passengers of the high-speed train were dropped off with their luggage and transferred to Rifredi station, to continue the journey towards Milan, while the police canine units boarded the 11 carriages. The bomb squad and the Polfer were also on site. From the first investigations nothing suspicious or dangerous emerged, therefore traffic resumed on the tracks adjacent to 9. Here, however, the Frecciarossa involved in the alarm is still stopped and clean-up operations are underway, with security personnel checking between the seats, the corridors, the bathrooms, the overhead bins. «In the Florence hub, railway traffic is gradually resuming after the necessary investigations by the police in the Santa Maria Novella station», announces RFI on its website, «effects on mobility: high-speed trains make regular stops in the Florence Santa Maria Novella station”.
