VITERBO – “In the conference in the province hall we will not only talk about Viterbo and Montefiascone, but about all the towns in the province of Viterbo where, in 1944, the French colonial troops committed violence against the civilian population.”

Thus begins the journalist Silvano Olmi, the organizer of the conference on morocchinate which will be held on Thursday 13 June 2024, at 5.30 pm, in the conference room of the Province, in via Saffi 49, in Viterbo.

The event, entitled “The Marocchinate in Tuscia, The violence of the French colonial troops on the civilian population of Viterbo”, is free to enter and is promoted by the national association of victims of the Marocchinate.

“There are around a hundred women raped by allied soldiers in the province of Viterbo – continues Olmi – around ten in the capital, the others in the municipalities of Tuscia.”

Montefiascone was particularly affected, with the rape of some women and a seven-year-old child and the killing of Giuseppe Angeli, Abele Mezzetti, Luigi Carloni, Ada Andreini and her 5-year-old son Ivano Pelecca.

The French North Africans also struck in Tarquinia, Acquapendente, Onano, Proceno, Grotte di Castro, San Lorenzo Nuovo, Vetralla, Capranica, Latera, Gradoli, Marta, Bolsena, Canino and Barbarano Romano.

“On the occasion of the eightieth anniversary of the crossing of the war front – concludes Olmi – our conference will be the only one where these events that hit the populations of Tuscia hard will be discussed.”
