accused of the death of Giuseppe Tirone in Cervinara

The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Avellino, with the deputy Prosecutor Cecilia Annecchini, obtained from the investigating judge of the Court of Avellino, Paolo Cassano, immediate judgment in the case of the death of Giuseppe Tirone. The accused, Massimo Passariello, is defended by lawyers Vittorio Fucci and Domenico Cioffi.

The Prosecutor’s Office had already reformulated the charge, contesting the aggravating circumstances in Passariello, which would exclude access to alternative rites. On that occasion, the defenders had underlined how this decision, given the considerable lapse of time that had elapsed, was indicative of a detailed reflection on the part of the judiciary. This reflected the objections advanced by the defense and its technical consultants regarding the causal link between the event and Tirone’s death.

These objections will be brought forward by the defense during the trial. Passariello was arrested in flagrante delicto, accused of having doused Giuseppe Tirone with flammable liquid and setting him on fire after an argument. However, the investigating judge Paolo Cassano, accepting the arguments of the lawyers Vittorio Fucci and Domenico Cioffi, did not validate the arrest, subsequently issuing a precautionary order due to the serious indications of guilt.

The serious accident occurred on December 16th in via Curielli. Giuseppe Tirone, 51 years old, suffered serious burns and was transported to the San Pio hospital in Benevento. The officers of the Cervinara police station ascertained that Tirone had had an argument with a neighbour, already known to the police. After leaving, the neighbor returned with a bottle of petrol, which he quickly poured on Tirone, then setting him on fire. Passariello, 38, was tracked down and arrested shortly after. Tirone died a few days after the event.
