Seven cars destroyed, a Vespa damaged and several trees burned is the toll of a fire that broke out around 11pm on Tuesday 11 June in viale Diaz in Torre del Greco. An old woman would have triggered the fuse Nissan Micra in transit in the road with an elderly man on board.
The fire, according to some witnesses, started from the engine compartment of the car which was then abandoned in the center of the road by the driver who, fortunately, managed to escape. save yourself. The flames engulfed the passenger compartment and, probably after the explosion of the tank, involved the cars parked on both sides of the avenue.
It cannot be ruled out that among the vehicles involved there were also some tanks fueled by LPG.
“We experienced minutes of real terror,” says a lawyer who lives in Viale Diaz. «First we heard two women screaming and asking for help and then we realized the fire was spreading quickly: the flames were very high and there were several explosions. We were very scared. We were lucky, because it could have been a massacre.”
The first to arrive on site were the officers from the police station located a few meters away, in via Sedivola: the policemen also blocked some residents who, frightened, had come down from their homes to try to save their cars. The decisive factor was the arrival of the firefighters who managed to put out the flames.
The area was cordoned off and made safe within an hour.
