Who won and who lost (really) the European elections: FdI loses 600 thousand votes and M5S 2 million, only Pd and Avs grow

The percentages of support of the various parties in these European elections are known to everyone. But what are the results in terms of absolute numbers?

The first Italian party in the European elections was Fratelli d’Italia, with over 28 percent of the vote. President Giorgia Meloni, strengthened by the result and the over 2 million preferences, celebrates and declares that the Government emerges strengthened.

However, by examining the various data returned from the scrutiny of the elections of 8 and 9 June, it emerges that the majority party received around 600 thousand votes compared to the 2022 elections, going from 7 million and 300 thousand to 6 million and 704 thousand votes . Identical result for Forza Italia, which passes to 2 million and 237 thousand votes against 2 million and 279 thousand in 2022, and for the League (2 million votes against 2 million and 400 thousand).

However, the winner of the bitter competition of the loss of votes in absolute terms is the 5 Star Movement, which marks a drop of 2 million votes compared to 2022, going from 4.3 million to 2.3 million. Certainly the lower influx of voters, due to record abstention which exceeds the 50% threshold, weighs on this figure but under the same conditions there are two parties which instead have increased consensus: the Democratic Party and the Green Left Alliance.

The party of Fratoianni and Bonelli takes home one and a half million votes, 500 thousand compared to the 2022 elections, while the Democratic Party totals 5 million and 604 thousand votes, 250 thousand more than in the two-year elections.
