(SAY) Rome, 11 June. – “From 1990 to 2021, fugitive emissions in the gas supply chain have reduced by 66%, compared to an increase in gas transported and distributed by 53%. It is worth remembering that in Italy emissions from the natural gas supply chain represent only 7% of national methane emissions (45% are linked to agriculture and 39% to waste) and 0.8% of national greenhouse gas emissions . This is also due to the mitigation actions implemented by Italian companies.” Proxigas (National Association of Gas Industrialists) released these data in a post on Linkedin following participation in the conference ‘Italy hub of climate change and gas waste’ organized by Legambiente live on Youtube.

Proxigas promotes the dissemination “of ever greater information and sensitivity towards the issue of fugitive methane emissions”, a line of intervention “on which our industry is very committed to making the use of gas increasingly sustainable”, we read in a note. Italian companies “are considered examples of excellence at a global level – says Proxigas – Our main associates have joined the voluntary initiative of the Ogmp 2.0 Protocol – an emissions reporting system promoted by the United Nations – earning recognition for companies that they stand out for the completeness of the reporting of their methane emissions and the reduction targets (the so-called Gold Standard). This is a global challenge, in which our industry can play a leading role, enhancing its skills and experience”. (Com/Ran/Dire) 18:36 11-06-24
