Liguria. The first data to underline are i 106,691 Ligurian voters who did not show up to vote compared to the last political elections in 2022. In Liguria the turnout in the European elections remained at a few decimal points above the “psychological” threshold of 50% but it still suffered a drastic drop compared to 64.19% two years ago.

Although the data is flawed by the presence of Italians abroad (who do not have a separate constituency at the European elections but vote according to the municipality of Aire registration), the premise is necessary to sum up the vote in a region politically shocked by the investigation into Giovanni Toti: to date the two hypothetical coalitions seem in practice to be equivalentwith growth in relative terms of the leading parties (PD And Brothers of Italy) and some surprises hidden between the rows of numbers.

Difficult to understand how much the judicial events have encouraged abstentionismwhich however is definitely one national trendprobably also due to the shortage appeal of the European elections compared to other competitions. Despite a substantial draw, the centre-right in Liguria lost a total of 32,957 votes (10.67%), while the progressives – including the M5s – lost 43,791 (10.29%). Also in this case the “specific weight” of the new abstentionism seems equally distributed.

It is therefore useful to think with “pure” numbers, without prejudice to the fact that the party of those who don’t vote plays another championship counting on a record pool of 644,708 voters. The Democratic party grows clearly in percentage, going from 22.67% to 26.29%, but in absolute terms he sees his pelvis as almost stablewith a slight drop in numbers: from 166,347 to 164,470. Brothers of Italywhich rose from 24.11% to 26.77%, he actually got fewer votes (from 176.907 to 167.508). There League drops from 9.28% to 8.88%, but the absolute numbers tell the story better debacle: from 68,086 to 55,560. Forza Italia it went from 6.56% to 8.43%, i.e. from 48,121 to 52,734 votes, however in 2022 the autonomous list of We Moderates (to which governor Toti referred) brought the dowry alone 15,645 votes which mostly seem to have been lost along the way.

The 5 Star Movement has collapsed from 93,413 to 63,727 votes (in practice one in three is lost), despite going from 12.73% to 10.19%. The centrist front has almost halved which drops from the 78,775 of Azione-Italia Viva and +Europa (10.73%) to the current 45,484 adding Azione and United States of Europe (7.27%).

The only political force that has recorded “real” growth in Liguriain percentage but also in absolute numbers, is theGreen Left Alliance which started from 31,850 votes two years ago (4.34%) and reached 48,069 (7.68%), essentially 50% more. A force that is not directly represented in the regional council, even if it is very close to Linea Condivisa di Gianni Pastorino and to the civic list of Ferruccio Sansa.
