PALERMO – Two years ago, at the Regionals, he was forced to take a step back for the veto of the Democratic Party’s then gubernatorial candidate Caterina Chinnici.
Today it is close to 50 thousand preferences and books a one-way ticket to Brussels while Chinnici, who passed through Forza Italia, placed third in the blue list.
These European Championships have the flavor of revenge for Giuseppe Lupo, former parliamentarian and long-time Dem. After two years as a city councilor in Palermo, he returns to the limelight with an electoral exploit.
In the challenge entirely internal to the Democratic Partythe former regional secretary came in behind only Elly Schlein who, as widely announced, will give up her seat.
At this point Lupo’s election is certain who surpasses the outgoing one Pietro Bartolo (almost 45 thousand votes), Antonio Nicita (43 thousand), Sardinian Angela Quaquero (42,000) and the journalist Lidia Tilotta (37 thousand).
Lupo’s success was almost entirely achieved in Sicily. The stronghold is the province of Palermo (16 thousand preferences, of which less than half in the capital, where Tilotta does better, and first in Monreale). Good results also come from Agrigento, Catania and Messina.
