The king of Paris for 2024 is Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard, after defeating Jannik Sinner in the semi-final, also wins the last act of Roland-Garros against Alexander Zverev after 4 hours and 17 minutes. Comeback victory in the fifth set for the class of 2003 (6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2) and triumphs for the first time in the Parisian Grand Slam (third career Slam after US Open 2022 and Wimbledon 2023).
The match
A match that turns out to be more complex than expected for the number 3 in the ranking. The Spaniard wins the first set 6-3 and seems to be heading towards a more or less easy victory, but the German (seeded n.4) responds like a great champion and takes the second set by winning 6-2. In the third set we play point to point, with the two finalists trying to exploit their best shots. Alcaraz makes a lot of mistakes, Zverev takes advantage of it and manages to overturn everything, winning 7-5 and taking the lead to 2-1 and giving a clear turn to the match.
The Spaniard, however, didn’t like it and got back on track in the fourth chapter of the match, also finding the break and winning 6-1. A response of great strength and conviction that once again changes the momentum of the match. As in any self-respecting Slam final, we then get to the fifth set where we come out on top it is Carlos Alcaraz who closes the match after 4 hours and 18 minutes winning the fifth set 6-2. The king of Paris is the Spaniard who adds another Slam to his palmares, this time on the red clay of the French capital. 14th career title, second of the season for the talented 21 year old.
