Padua, accident on the Romea between a car and a camper: husband and wife dead

A married couple lost their lives in the road accident that occurred on the afternoon of Sunday 9 June on the Romea state road, in the territory of the municipality of Codevigo in the Padua area, on the border with the Venetian province. The death of the husband and wife, aged 81 and 76 respectively and residents of San Donà di Piave (Venice), was caused by the head-on collision between their car, a Citroen C4, and a camper in which a German family was travelling. who was going to Sottomarina for the summer holidays.

The investigations

The investigations to establish the exact dynamics took the whole afternoon, but from the very first reconstructions the traffic police were able to establish that the accident was due when the car, which was traveling in the direction of Padua, changed lanes and whose guide was the woman. The head-on impact against the camper was devastating, to the point of causing the 81-year-old’s immediate death and serious injury to his wife, who then died a couple of hours later in hospital in Padua, where she had been transported with the ‘air ambulance. The driver of the camper was also injured who saw the car invade the lane and was transported by ambulance to Padua hospital.

Road Closed

The investigations to establish the real dynamics of the fatal accident occupied the police throughout the afternoon, requiring the road closure which had important consequences for the traffic of the stretch in the direction of Chioggia-Padua, so much so that a queue of almost three kilometers formed. It is not the first time that that stretch of the Romea state road has been affected by a fatal accident: the last one dates back to just three weeks ago, to be precise on Saturday 18 May, when a sixty-year-old husband and wife living in Spinea (Venice) died instantly after, on board their Suzuki Custom motorbike, they collided head-on with a minivan in which a German family was traveling in Codevigo, in the hamlet of Santa Margherita.
