Mauro Bardusco, 70 years old, a leading figure in the world of regional music and jazz in particular, for 26 years, died today, Saturday 8 June, in Gorizia hospital following the illness he had been fighting for just over a year. years artistic director of the Jazz & Wine of Peace festival in Cormons and one of the founders of Circolo Controtempo, the association that organizes it and which through its various festivals and events brings the best of world jazz to Friuli Venezia Giulia.

A very well-known person also in Gorizia, where he was born and lived and where he managed the historic Cornici Bardusco shop in via delle Monache, always passionate about jazz and sport, he shared his passion for music and his path in organizing musical events with Fulvio Coceani, another founder of Circolo Controtempo, who suddenly passed away in July 2022.

It was Coceani, who in 1991 organized a concert by Riccardo Tesi’s quartet in Romans d’Isonzo in collaboration with Renato Valentinuz, president of the local Acli club, who asked Bardusco, in 1992, to organize, again in Romans, a concert by the great English saxophonist John Surman. Over the years the concerts increased, from Romans they moved to the municipal theater of Monfalcone and in 1998 the great adventure of Jazz & Wine of Peace and Circolo Controtempo began, which for some years also managed “Gorizia Jazz”, a highly successful event , then expanding the activity in 2005 with “Il volo del jazz” in Sacile and other formats in the region. Bardusco, with his passionate and competent artistic guidance, was undoubtedly one of the architects of the success of the Cormons festival and of the fame that the event has achieved throughout the world.

Another great passion of his was basketball, a sport which he continued to practice for fun as long as he was able, after having played in some Gorizia teams in his youth, in particular Arte and Ivy. A fan of the Reyer Venezia basketball team (a city that he loved very much), he also followed football with passion and was a Milan fan.

Circolo Controtempo learned the news this afternoon, a new painful stage in the history of the association. For everyone, Paola Martini, president, remembers Mauro Bardusco, underlining his human qualities as well as his competence. “For me, and I’m sure for many, Mauro was a great master, and the continuous exchange and comparison of ideas that was nourished and consolidated especially in the various editions of the Jazz & Wine of Peace festival, allowed me to grow and enrich the wealth of artistic knowledge. He will be greatly missed by everyone.”

Mauro Bardusco leaves his brother Giorgio and an unfillable void in the world of jazz and music in general.
