from San Benedetto to Cupra, prices

San Benedetto (Ascoli), 8 June 2024 – Cupra is the least expensive of seaside resorts to rent an umbrella during the summer season, 10 euros less on average than San Benedetto, which instead ‘wins’ the prize for the city with the highest rents. The scorching heat begins to be felt, and so the migration towards the summer shores begins, albeit later than scheduled. But the costs for a refreshing afternoon under the umbrella continue to rise, and so, we analyzed rental prices for umbrellas and deckchairs in the area.

Cupra reaches a daily average for the first week of July of around 17 euros, considering an umbrella and two sunbeds between the first and second row. The price obviously goes up if the rent is for the first week of August, reaching around 20 euros per day for the same services. It must be said that despite the lower prices compared to other municipalities on the coast, the availability of umbrellas in the establishments is still livable.

Very different situation a Grottammare and San Benedetto, where the shortage of places is starting to make itself felt. In terms of costs, Grottammare ranks second, with a cost of a couple of euros higher than that of Cupra: here, the daily average for the first week of July is 20.50 euros, again for a location among the top rows, with umbrella and two deckchairs. In August, something more: the rental rate rises to 22 euros per day, increased by exactly 2 euros compared to nearby Cupra. And then, the most expensive: San Benedetto records a daily average of 25 euros for the first week of July, a price that rises to almost 28 euros in August. We therefore calculate an increase of around 8 euros compared to Cupra and 6 compared to Grottammare.

Comparing our results with the national ones, where the average for a week at the seaside under the shade of the front rows is approximately 31 euros per day, we can see how the situation in the province of Ascoli is much cheaper. And this is also demonstrated by the survey made public by Altroconsumo, in which 211 beach establishments in ten different national locations were analysed. Among those considered, the only municipality in the Marche region is Senigallia, which wins the ‘cheapest’ prize in the ranking, with 145 euros for a week’s rent of an umbrella in August. Price which corresponds to approximately 20 euros per day. Therefore, considering the situation in the Piceno area and the considerations of Altroconsumo, the Marche average is well below the national one, which instead is around 30 euros per day. But, there is a sore point: compared to 2023, in 2024 prices (again according to Altroconsumo) rose by 8%, while in other locations the growth was lower. On average, in fact, there was a growth of 4%.
