Administrative elections, voting starts tomorrow in the Vibo area. Thirteen municipalities involved

VIBO VALENTIA Thirteen municipalities voting, a pool of around 60 thousand people involved. Voting for the administrative elections in the province of Vibo Valentia will be held this weekend: thousands of candidates compete to access the various municipal councils. All eyes are on the municipality of Vibo, the only Calabrian provincial capital involved in the electoral round of 8 and 9 June. Voting will take place from 11pm tomorrow until 11pm and from 7am to 11pm on Sunday. Then, after the one for the European elections, there will be the count dedicated to the administrative elections, the outcome of which is particularly awaited in Vibo to find out if it will actually be a run-off, as expected. There will be no waiting, however, for the other municipalities called to vote, for which the name of the new mayor will be known immediately.

The political relevance of the Vibo municipal elections

Due to their “uniqueness” the Vibo municipal municipalities assume great importance on a political level, even beyond local balances. Four candidates for mayor are in the field: the former president of the province Enzo Romeo with the four lists of the progressive front, the lawyer Francesco Muzzopappa with the centrist pole fielding five lists, the director of the Region Roberto Cosentino with the six lists for the center-right e Marcella Murabito candidate for Rifondazione Comunista. The closing rallies of a calm electoral campaign are scheduled for this afternoon and without any particular blows, but with visits from various national and regional “big names”. Romeo received the endorsement of all the leaders of the sides, including Elly Schlein, Giuseppe Conte And Nicola Fratoianni. “Shortage” of national leaders for Cosentino, except for Gianni Alemanno with Indipendenza and regional exponents of the centre-right, including Occhiuto and Cannizzaro. Visiting Vibo to launch Muzzopappa, however, Maurizio Lupi for Us Moderates e Carlo Calenda per Action.

The hamlets at the center of the electoral campaign

Fractions and relaunch are the two key words of the electoral campaign. In particular, it was the small towns under the aegis of the Vibo municipality that attracted the attention of the four candidates: dozens of dedicated rallies, promises and rebirth projects for those who feel like “Serie B citizens”. From the water emergency of Piscopio to the tourist difficulties of Vibo Marina and Bivona, many issues and criticisms have been launched on the management of the Vibo hamlets. The candidates also promised to “relaunch” trade, tourism and a city center considered to be in difficulty from a social and cultural point of view. Few criticisms, with the exception of the centre-left, of the outgoing Limardo administration: while the centre-right with Cosentino promises continuity but also to “go further”, the mayor received Muzzopappa’s appreciation on several occasions, also given the support until a few months ago of the Pitarian party, now running with the centrist lawyer.

The other municipalities to vote: a “hot” challenge in Mileto

Mileto, Rombiolo, Cessaniti, Drapia, Mongiana, Nicotera, Pizzoni, Simbario, Sorianello, Soriano and Zungri all the other municipalities to vote in the Vibo area. “Inflamed” electoral campaign in Mileto complete with a complaint presented by the outgoing mayor Salvatore Fortunato Giordano for mysterious leaflets distributed at rallies and deemed defamatory by the mayor. Threats of lawsuits also from the opposing list “And yet it moves” with the candidate Michele Rombolà who accused Giordano of having exploited the issue of the leaflets. Furthermore, in the Mileto municipality, the unknown remains of the anti-mafia access commission which has not yet expressed the final decision on the alleged mafia infiltration. Instead, she was “saved” Nicotera: no dissolution for the administration of Giuseppe Marasco who is running again and challenging the quorum, being the only candidate in the field. Headlights also pointed at Tabbywhich returns to the vote after the dissolution, Cessanitiafter the resignation of the mayor and the recent news events, e Rombiolo, among the most populous municipalities voting.
