Cash back on electricity and gas bills is a little-known form of saving in Italy but is now becoming increasingly popular.
In the United States, cash back has been a widely used formula for some time, while in our country we had a taste of it after an initiative taken at state level.
Today cash back can be used in many online stores and the good news is that it can also be applied to bills of electricity and gas. Here’s how it works and how to save in a concrete way.
Cash back on bills, how much you save and how to access this benefit
Cash back is a marketing strategy that brings advantages to commercial companies and their customers, just like coupons or classic promotions and sales. It works like this: a percentage is recognized for each purchase (which can vary from 4, 5, 8 or 10%) of the total spent which comes after the transaction provided to the customer in different forms.
To give a practical example: a consumer buys a cell phone worth 200 euros and on this model there is a 10% cashback. After payment, the customer sees 10% back, or 20 euros, in the form of credit to the accountor credit on PayPal, or in the form of shopping voucher to spend in that same shop or another. Sometimes the cashback is paid in the form of Amazon vouchers.
Well, this formula is now also active on electricity and gas bills thanks to two realities: Poste Italiane and Enel As far as Poste Italiane is concerned, the cashback comes recognized by paying the bill with a PostePay or PostePay Evolution. The credit is paid directly to the rechargeable card a few days after the transaction.
However, with Enel X Pay the procedure is a little more complex, but it guarantees a 10% cashback return, therefore of a very advantageous percentage (online shops rarely reach 10% but stop at 4 or 5%). In practice, the Enel customer must download the App and create your personal profile; Then request the Enel X Pay card from the app; then select the Cashback Program in the main menu and finally pay the bills at one of many stores from the Enel
Also in this case, within a few days, the customer receives 10% of the amount spent on the bill. Considering that the current figures of an average bill are very high, in the end the savings materializes in a few hundred euros a year. A real breath of fresh air, considering that the price of electricity and gas is not yet decreasing despite inflation having fallen significantly in recent weeks.
