Taxis in Rome continue to make headlines, yesterday a taxi driver refused to let the journalist Alessandro Cecchi Paone on board. The episode, filmed by the camera installed on the taxi, was reported today by Codacons, which in a note communicated that it occurred “yesterday 5 June around 3.40 pm in Campo de’ Fiori”. The images show the journalist stopping the taxi, the car slows down but as soon as the taxi driver recognizes Cecchi Paone he addresses him like this: “I’m sorry, I don’t want to take her because she talks badly about taxis”.
“Uber will massacre you”, Cecchi Paone’s dry response, “Perfect, go on foot” was the taxi driver’s response. “The video shows the codes with the references of the car responsible for the serious episode, and will now be the subject of a formal complaint by Codacons“, continues the note from the consumer association.

Codacons will file a complaint “to the Local Police of Rome Capital, the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Capitol, asking them to identify the taxi driver responsible for the serious act, raising the sanctions provided for by current legislation and evaluating all the disciplinary measures to be taken, including the suspension of the license“.

“The taxi driver who prevented me from getting into the taxi did not do his category a good service, and did something he could not have done: now we will see if there will be criminal consequences after the Codacons complaint, but on my part , that I have chosen to use only taxis for work trips and those related to private life, I will continue the battle to increase competition in the sector and to ensure that the old licensing system can coexist peacefully with the new tools offered by the market, in the interests of service and the quality of life in our cities” – concludes Cecchi Paone.
