Following the circular from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers which renewed the indications and guidelines for carrying out forest firefighting activities for the 2024 summer season – from 15 June to 15 October – the Prefect, Daniela Lupo, held last 28 May a further coordination meeting with the provincial leaders of the Police Force, the Fire Brigade, the Departmental Forestry Inspectorate and the regional Civil Protection, in order to continue the prevention and combating of the fire phenomenon – woodlands, vegetation and interface – in the provincial territory.

The need for effective coordination is greatest in this area, given the high number of fires that are recorded annually during the summer season, which engages the AIB system in constant forecasting, prevention and combating activities, to protect not only of the precious forest heritage, constantly threatened and seriously damaged several times, but also of public safety.

In consideration of this fragility, the Prefecture, in agreement with the technical components, has already activated a dedicated table for some time, with the aim of starting a constant inter-institutional dialogue between the municipal administrations and the bodies responsible for prevention and contrast activities, with frequent meetings aimed at identifying specific intervention plans in view of the start of the AIB 2024 campaign.

In order to provide further acceleration with reference to the definition of decisive and shared intervention strategies, the updated mapping of the areas most affected by fire in the province, created by the Provincial Fire Command, was presented at the table during the last meeting. Fire brigade in collaboration with the Departmental Forestry Inspectorate, as a further knowledge tool for municipal administrations and the other components of the system.

With reference to these areas, considered particularly at risk, the Prefect has raised the awareness of the police forces in order to carry out, as part of the usual territorial control activity, close monitoring, particularly during the days in which the weather conditions are particularly favorable for the spread of fires, according to the warnings issued by the regional Civil Protection Department.
