The Housing Autonomy Center in via Monfalcone takes shape. “After yet another obstacle due to hydraulic problems, theft of the panels of the housing modules and acts of vandalism with consequent devastation of the fixtures, the company in charge is proceeding quickly with the assembly of the structures in the area adjacent to the old ‘Al Karama’ reception camp which was destroyed since the fire on July 2, 2022”. The news came from the councilor for social services Michele Nasso on the sidelines of the signing, which took place yesterday, of a new memorandum of understanding between the Municipality of Latina and the 21 Luglio association, which deals with problems concerning communities on a national scale Roma in housing emergency.
The agreement, signed by the mayor Matilde Celentano representing the municipal body and by Carlo Stasolla representing the 21 Luglio association, constitutes the continuation of a collaboration begun in March 2023 on the basis of which actions aimed at regulating both the terms and methods of assigning the temporary housing modules under construction. “The previous memorandum of understanding had expired a few months ago – explained councilor Nasso – and for this reason we proceeded with a new agreement which, given the progress of the works in via Monfalcone, is more aimed at guaranteeing the processes of integration and support for the autonomy of Roma and non-Roma families within the Center currently under construction”.
“The first step of the works in via Monfalcone – added councilor Nasso – will be concluded with the assembly of 10 modules, out of a total supply of 19, to satisfy the housing needs of the Roma families who today still stay at the structure of the ‘ex Rossi Sud made available by the Province of Latina. The installation of the additional nine modules will take place depending on the needs of other families, including non-Roma, in emergency housing conditions”.
