Maria Viola Bonafini and Simone Padovani (Olio Garda DOP) have joined the board of directors of Origin Italy, the Italian Association of Geographical Indications Consortia, which held its members’ meeting on 31 May 2024 in Villasimius (Ca), Sardinia. On this occasion they were the new members of the elected Board of Directors representing the 79 protection consortia and their respective supply chains. One sector, that of geographical indications, which is worth around 8 billion euros and includes 80 thousand companies.
For the next three years, therefore, also the Consortium for the protection of Garda DOP extra virgin olive oil will be an active part of the new Board of Directors of Origin Italia, thanks to the election of Maria Viola Bonafini, technical manager of the Garda DOP oil consortium. An important representation, which will be able to give a voice to the Garda olive growers of Veneto, Trentino and Lombardy.
Maria Viola Bonafini: PDO and PGI adhere to the FAO protocol
«I am truly honored to be able to give my contribution to the work of a reference association such as Origin Italia – comments the new councillor Maria Viola Bonafini – especially now, in which the PDO and PGI system is preparing to experience a decisive turning point with the adhesion to the FAO strategy which, in collaboration with Origin Mondo, has set itself the objective of achieving total sustainability of all Geographical Indications supply chains and respective protection consortia by 2030. A virtuous path on which, as the Garda DOP Oil Consortium, we have been committed for some time and on which we will also do our part at a national level, actively collaborating so that we can achieve not only environmental but also economic and social sustainability for all Italian denominations ».
