The Vicenza prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into the death from septicemia of Loris Comparin, the 46 year old former karate champion from Thiene (Vicenza). The request came from the athlete’s parents.

The investigation – as reported by the Vicenza newspaper – will have to evaluate any responsibility for the athlete’s death, so much so that an autopsy has already been arranged and at the same time the funeral scheduled for tomorrow in Arsiero has been cancelled.

Comparin’s parents, assisted by the lawyer Gaetano Calapai, want to understand if Loris, father of a little girl, could have been saved.

Champion and teacher

“He was loved by many and everyone remembers him as a man who was always cheerful, smiling and full of life. He was an honest and kind-hearted person. His passion for life was contagious and was reflected in his approach to karate – says his father Oscar Comparin – He possessed incredible athletic abilities and, thanks to experience, had developed considerable tactical competence over time. Loris was not only a great athlete, but also a great teacher: he always knew how to convey his expertise with skill and professionalism to his students at the Thiene Sports Center which he managed with a lot of passion.”

Tonsillitis and infection

In mid-May, Comparin was struck by an annoying tonsillitis, with severe pain in his throat and high fever. On May 14 – according to his family – he went to the general practitioner, who prescribed him some drugs. Since the treatment had proven ineffective, on the 15th he went to the emergency room of Santorso hospital, where he was examined and discharged. Once home, the 46-year-old continued to feel unwell, so much so that the following day he returned to the emergency room and the doctors decided, at this point, to admit him. Meanwhile the throat infection had spread.

Oscar Comparin says: “He fought for two weeks, remaining between life and death, but despite his physical strength and tenacity he didn’t make it. It’s terrible to lose a child in this way – concludes the father -. For This is what we decided to ask for further information. We don’t want to live with the doubt of not having done everything in our power.”
