Primavera Sound – Day 2 @ Parc del Fòrum (Barcelona, 05/31/24)

These are intense days, they are rich days: the first day of Primavera Sound overwhelmed us in a mix of dancing and nostalgia (you can find the full report here). During the second day we immediately notice a huge mass of people (not even last year since Rosalia we had seen so many), and it is immediately clear that they are practically all anxiously waiting for Lana Del Rey – but let’s go in order.

It’s up to Ethel Cain inaugurate this day, and we couldn’t ask for anything better: majestic in its simplicity, with a power that makes us feel tiny. Keffiyeh in hand to show support for Palestine (after all, the artist has always stood out also for her fervent activism) and off she goes, she inspires us with a respectful fear, like that of a faithful who enters a church.

Curiously, they also talk about churches The Last Dinner Party (pictured below), girls we couldn’t wait to see live. Between a joke about the Rocky Horror Show and dedications of songs to veterans of religious trauma, the group brought a unique energy to the stage, a very respectable show which perhaps, in our shy opinion, deserved a bigger stage – if they continue on this path, we are sure that they will get there.

Big big surprise i Dogstarwhich are not only beautiful Keanu Reeves on bass: nice energy, nice presence, nice songs. Beautiful beautiful beautiful. We would like to point out that this summer they have four dates in Italy: a leap, if possible, it is absolutely necessary to do at least one.

Among the stars of the evening we absolutely also mention BadBadNotGood, Yo La Tengo And Faye Websterunfortunately coinciding a bit with i Dogstara little between them, and a little also with Troye Sivan. Race after race we still manage to see enough to say that they are all phenomenal (and despair because we would like to see much more). Faye it’s almost endearing, the audience in raptures for this shy girl but clearly excited to be on stage.

She arrives like a bride (in the sense that she was kept waiting), Lana Del Rey: we already knew that she would probably be late and that it would be an absurd chaos to try to see her in that chaos of people… But we did it anyway. After almost half an hour of delay (due to technical problems, it seems) the singer starts with a bang with “Without You” (with audio problems in the middle, so her voice could only be heard at times). She doesn’t seem too convinced at first, she turns the microphone more towards the audience than towards herself (she too is probably tired of the technical problems), but after a couple of songs the situation seems to improve. “Ride” is unmissable, with well-curated sets and dancers surrounding the singer with fans. After the performance she explains that she is excited to be there and she apologizes for the delay, with immaculate class and elegance. Are we frustrated with the delay and various problems? Yes. Did we still like it? Absolutely.

We then officially start the dancing with Jai Paul: between him, the hyperpop share (Hannah Diamond), i Disclosure And Barry Can’t Swim we can’t sit still for a second (also because here too we find one coincidence of timing after another). Impeccable. Let’s try to pop by too Tirzahresulting quite disappointed, and we arrive at the other big star of the evening, the one and only experimental diva: Ark.

Delirium breaks out, it’s three in the morning (which after almost two full days of festival is definitely felt!) but it’s impossible to stop dancing: a sensational performer, she is precisely the bruja of our heart.

And while we are still in a dance hangover, we prepare to cry for the last day of the festival: Mitski, American Football, PJ Harvey… AND Set free.
