The first edition of Quartieri Spagnoli Film Festival ended with the awarding of the homonymous prize to Biagio Manna, director of the short film “Vincenza Birillo”. There eventheld at the Foqus Foundation in Quartieri Spagnoli, recorded enormous success and was organized by the Salvatore Iodice Mine Association with the support of local activities.

Biagio Manna, who continues to live in the neighborhoods with love, worked with Paolo Sorrentino and said of him: «Having worked with Paolo makes me proud. I have many wonderful memories, because more than a film, I experienced an adventure with him, made up of travel, commitments and strong emotions.

A unique, generous director. The thing that amazed me the most was reading the scripts and understanding exactly what he was looking for, because they were written really well. He made me love directing. As for my short film, the story came about because more and more children I meet ask me to act, and I was inspired by their parents’ reactions, which reminded me of my parents’ reactions when I told them I wanted to be an actor. My parents, unlike those of short filmbut they are honest workers. I wanted to represent the discomfort of a missed listening experience, which I instead had. I am proud to be Neapolitan. Living in Quartieri Spagnoli is a constant source of inspiration for me.”

The short film “Vincenza Birillo” will soon become a book, written by Manna himself. In the actor’s future, among the protagonists of “It was the hand of God” and “Mare Fuori”, more cinema (four films) and a theater show “Fratelli a sonagli” written and directed by Manna, also starring Piera Violante and Michele Costantino.
