Cassino – Coreno Ausonio’s 3A class won the 2024 Pino and Amilcare Mattei Award on the topic of violence against women

In second place the middle school of Santi Cosma e Damiano, in third place that of Esperia. The award was given to the vice president of the Lazio Region, Roberta Angelilli, together with the commissioner of the Lazio Industrial Consortium, Raffaele Trequattrini.

Coreno Ausonio’s 3A class won the seventh edition of Pino and Amilcare Mattei Award. This morning, in the Council Room of the Rectorate of Cassino, the Vice President of the Lazio Region Roberta Angelilli proclaimed the 2024 winners in the presence of the Commissioner of the Lazio Industrial Consortium prof. Raffaele Trequattrini and the Magnificent Rector of the University of Cassino prof. Marco Dell’Isola.

The 2023/2024 edition of the Award focused on a highly topical topic: violence against women. Over the last few months, several thematic meetings have been organized in many schools in the area with the support of the Carabinieri and the “Se non ora Quando” Association of Cassino.

Coreno Ausonio’s school ranked first with “Violence without bruises” with which the children focused on verbal violence and the need to promote a culture of respect and empathy. In second place was the school of Saints Cosma and Damiano with “Sick Love” with which they focused on the importance of recognizing and believing in true love, the kind that does not hurt but builds authentic and respectful relationships. In third place was the Esperia school with “A te che sei donna” with which they described the typical relationships of their age, highlighting the importance of fundamental values such as respect and defense of the dignity of women.

«This is an important event, which as a Consortium we carry out every year to remember the figures of Pino and Amilcare Mattei – stated the Commissioner of the Lazio Industrial Consortium prof. Raffaele Trequattrini on the sidelines of the initiative –. Two entrepreneurs who, thanks also to their work, have allowed the Coreno Ausonio district to become an excellence on an international scale. Pino and Amilcare were always very attentive to the education of young people and were personally committed to supporting activities that put young people at the centre.

This year we decided, in agreement with the family, to open the competition to a highly topical topic which, unfortunately, is increasingly at the center of crime news: violence against women. Thanks to the support and collaboration of the Carabinieri we were able to create a path of high-profile reflection and analysis within schools, a path that ended with a direct commitment of young people in proposing works rich in content and important ideas of reflection. Personally it was a very emotional ceremony, this award was born in 2014 in the wake of the tragic news events that led to the premature death of the Mattei brothers.

After those events, I, president of Cosilam at the time, together with the then general director Antonio Gargano decided to create a project that could be a fitting tribute to these two entrepreneurs. Ten years later, seeing so much participation in this competition can only make me proud.”

The winners of the seventh edition were awarded by the Vice President of the Lazio Region Roberta Angelilli who stated: «Seeing so many young people engaged in such an important issue as violence against women is nice because it provides us with a strong message. Violence can never be justified and it is essential that the police and the institutions also do their part to condemn and repress violence. There must always be a certainty of the punishment but a lot must be done in terms of awareness and prevention, the University as well as educational institutions can do a lot because the message of non-violence must really start from the children”. The Vice President then addressed the young people present in the room: «You must believe in your dreams, you must follow your dreams with strength and tenacity because through commitment, study and perseverance these can become reality. You are our future.”

Present at the awards ceremony, in addition to the project partners, were also the deputy Massimo Ruspandini, the regional councilor Daniele Maura, the director of the Department of Economics-Law of the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio, Prof. Enrica Iannucci.
