After leaving the Juventus on a free transfer to return to Benficawe’re back to talking about the future of Angel Di Maria. The Argentine had in fact signed an annual contract with the Portuguese team and with the end of the season doubts about his possible stay increase. Di Maria was the author of a season as an absolute protagonist, with 17 goals and 13 assists in all competitions. Numbers that Benfica would like to secure for next year too, but on which the Argentine seems to have doubts.
Benfica, Di Maria ready for a new farewell
As reported by Oh Jogothe intention of Benfica would be to confirm Angel Di Maria also for the next season by signing an annual renewal. However, the Argentine seems inclined to leave Da Luz again and has already communicated his decision to the club. What is most surprising, however, are his intentions for the future, given that he is not expected to return to Rosario Central. The former PSG player has always declared that he wants to end his career in the team he grew up with, but perhaps he was scared by the threats received from some Argentine fans in recent months. According to the Portuguese newspaper Di Maria he would therefore be willing to try a new adventure, once again postponing his return home to Argentina.
Benfica, Rui Costa on Di Maria: “I hope he stays with us”
Rui Costapresident of the Portuguese club, spoke thus about the future of Of Maria: “We had signed an annual contract because his idea was to finish his career in Argentina. For reasons they know, returning to Argentina may not be so easy. Next week we will have a meeting with Di Maria’s agent and we’ll see. Today I can’t say anything else, but of course I would like him to stay.” Words that increase doubts, with Di Maria who could therefore continue his career in another European club or try an experience in championships like MLS or the Saudi Pro League.
