May 26th Lazio

EDITORIAL – The May 26, 2013 it is a date that will forever remain engraved in the history of Rome football. It is the day in which for the only time in history the two clubs that coexist in the Italian capital faced each other with a trophy at stake. It had never happened before in history and its value is undoubted Italian Cup covered, covers and will cover forever. Two clubs that, let’s say, have never enjoyed great moments of glory with a similar history of success, but by a twist of fate found themselves facing each other to win not only an official title but also something more.

The field gave its verdict and the man of history became Senad Lulic. His goal was a watershed in the football history of the Eternal City and its two clubs. The rivalry that had always existed was shattered from that moment on. No derby will ever have the same value again because sport is made up of moments, matches and sensations. Never again will Rome experience the fibrillation that preceded the match and never again will we see the positive and negative hysteria that followed it. That false indifference of the Giallorossi fans is determined by the awareness that in that case they too made history, but doing so through the wrong door. Someone defined that defeat as “an atomic bomb fell on Rome”. The historicity of that event is brought about by the fact that after 10 years and until the end of their lives the Lazio and Roma fans know perfectly where they were and what they were doing on 26 May 2013. Everyone has a photograph of that moment where they had the greatest sporting joy or the most bitter and indelible disappointment. This testifies to the majestic importance that what was a football match marked the sporting feelings and not only of the Lazio players and the Roman fans.
