Sludge removal after flood. Son to Sant’Agata

In March, Hera began the removal of soil and sludge from the flood classified as waste in compliance with Ordinance 17/2024 of the Extraordinary Commissioner. The intervention is progressive and has so far concerned 6 of the 9 lots present in the affected area: the recovery of the land is between 90 and 95%.

On Friday, an inspection of the commissioner’s structure took place at the sports fields in via Berlinguer where the screening of the soil and sludge has just been completed: the soil was analyzed and certified suitable for reuse. In total, in the area of Ravenna and Cesena affected by the flood, almost 120,000 tonnes of soil and sludge classified as waste will be processed by October.

In all, this amounts to almost 120,000 tonnes of soil and sludge classified as waste. The goal is to recover the largest amount of material possible. The complex operation of removal from the accumulation points, which began last March immediately after the publication of ordinance 17/2024 of the Extraordinary Commissioner, which regulates the methods of these activities, is already at an advanced stage and after the summer all the areas will be restored.

This is also happening in Sant’Agata sul Santerno, where this afternoon, Friday 24 May, the Extraordinary Commissioner for Reconstruction, Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, went for a visit to the area of the sports fields in via Berlinguer: here Hera has just completed the screening of the sludge classified as waste, leaving only piles of clean and reusable earth. The inspection by General Figliuolo, accompanied by the Mayor of Sant’Agata sul Santerno, Enea Emiliani and by the Central Director of Environmental Services and Fleets of the Hera Group, Giulio Renato, was preceded by a meeting in the Municipality during which the phases of processing of sludge classified as waste caused by floods.

“The Hera Group, national leader in waste management, in continuity with what was done during the emergency caused by the flood, also intervened effectively and quickly in the management of the sludge resulting from the extraordinary event – states Giulio Renato, Central Services Director Environmental and Fleets of the Hera Group – and we are ensuring adequate management of this waste in order to recover the greatest amount of clean land. In the affected areas we are completing the complex removal of soil and flood mud: our sustainable and integrated approach has made it possible to best recover this type of waste, obtaining between 90 and 95% of recoverable material”.

Currently, the emptying of these accumulation points is underway. The municipalities affected by these operations are: Sant’Agata sul Santerno, Faenza, Brisighella, Solarolo, Lugo, Bagnacavallo, Conselice (all in the province of Ravenna) and Cesena (Forlì-Cesena).
