Since yesterday the 39-year-old left the Hungarian prison where she was detained for about 15 months and was transferred to house arrest

Ilaria Salis in court in Budapest for his third hearing, for the first time without chains and handcuffs. In the courtroom, the address indicated for house arrest is made known.

Salis – accused of attacking some participants of a neo-Nazi demonstration in Budapest on 11 February 2023 – arrives in court accompanied by her father Roberto Salis.

“There were a series of very serious infractions, the judge who was the public prosecutor with a biased view, and the most serious thing is that we witnessed an out of the ordinary protection for the victim, while for the Italian accused, Ilaria , leading candidate Avs, the address of residence was clearly disclosed, her domicile where obviously she is at risk but also other Italian citizens who are there to help her are at risk”, says the woman’s father, in a pause in the hearing.

“Now we have an absolutely unmanageable situation where it is good for the government to immediately take a position – continues Roberto Salis – There will be an interpellation from AVS as soon as possible, but the government must ensure that Ilaria is immediately taken to house arrest in Italy or that Ilaria is now being transferred to the embassy.

“Divulging the home address of Ilaria Salis, the victim of multiple threats for some time, is a very serious violation of privacy which must now be remedied because her safety is at risk. Today, the measure of arrests has been extended for six months under house arrest in Budapest, we insist on release or if a precautionary measure it must be under house arrest in Italy”, Eugenio Losco, one of the woman’s Italian lawyers, tells Adnkronos.

“I don’t know now what tools there might be, diplomacy, the Embassy must move, because a complicated situation has been created. We will insist with the request for freedom or to bring her back to Italy in any case” adds the lawyer who underlines how “the violation of privacy is one of many serious violations of an unfair trial.”

Ilaria Salis has been under house arrest since yesterday

The 39-year-old left the Hungarian prison yesterday where she was detained for about 15 months and was transferred to house arrest where she will remain until the end of her trial. Salis is accused of attacking some participants of a neo-Nazi demonstration in Budapest on February 11, 2023.

All constraints for Salis

The document with which, on May 15, the Hungarian court of second instance accepted the request for house arrest and bail against the 39-year-old teacher in prison on charges of attacking three people is sparse but precise.

Accused in the proceedings which began last March 28 before the judges of Budapest – the act establishes that her detention in prison “will end with the payment of bail to the district court of Elsofoku”, bail the amount of which must be paid “from today within one month ” and “orders special surveillance until the final pronouncement.” Under house arrest, Salis will be able to leave the house “only with the permission of the court”, furthermore she “will be monitored with a device” i.e. the electronic bracelet.
