“The fires that are threatening the cultivated lands of the Anapo Valley risk causing considerable economic damage and bringing many honest family men to their knees. We are still waiting for the funds promised by the regional governor Schifani”.
This was declared by Tiziano Spada, regional deputy of the Democratic Party, in relation to the fires that are taking place along the banks of the Anapo river, in the province of Syracuse.

“A year ago – continues Spada – the President of the Region had promised urgent mapping of some waterways in Sicily, with an extraordinary plan of maintenance interventions, for a total of 20 million euros to invest. The interventions should also have concerned the province of Syracuse and the Anapo river. With the increase in temperatures, several fires are breaking out which risk devouring hectares of citrus groves and causing considerable economic damage to farmers in the area.

As usual, Schifani’s was the usual electoral advert. To date, in fact, there is no trace of the interventions. Furthermore, the environmental impact assessment of the competent technical-scientific committee requires several months: the risk is that the implementation of the interventions will take too long, which is why the Region needs to intervene as soon as possible”.
To urge the Government’s intervention, the regional parliamentarian announces a question to the leaders of the Agriculture Department of the Sicily Region.

“I express my closeness towards the Syracusan farmers who see themselves threatened by the fires, and who have been waiting for a signal from the Region for a long time. I am working on a question to the Department of Agriculture – concludes Spada – to understand when the Region intends to follow up on the action it announced it would undertake to avoid further damage to farmers in the province of Syracuse”.
