Mexico: President Maynez candidate’s tent collapses, 4 dead – Breaking news

Four people died and 15 others were injured in northern Mexico when a tent that had just hosted presidential candidate Jorge Álvarez Máynez collapsed.

“I’m fine and I’m in contact with the authorities to follow the evolution of what happened: the most important thing right now is to take care of the victims of the accident,” Maynez wrote on his X account. The collapse occurred in the municipality of San Pedro Garza, which is part of the metropolitan area of the industrial center of Monterrey, in the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon. Maynez added that some of his injured staff members are hospitalized. “I return to the scene to support the victims,” he said. Videos broadcast by local media show the moment a giant screen collapsed on Maynez and other members of the center-left Movimiento Ciudadano party, who managed to take cover.

Other images published on X show people being pulled out of a pile of iron structures. For his part, Governor Samuel García, made it clear that the region is experiencing thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rains. “There was an accident. A strong wind collapsed a stage during the closing of the electoral campaign here in San Pedro,” he explained in a video published on his social networks.
