The urgent medical flight, requested by the Prefecture of Cagliari, was carried out with a Falcon 50 of the 31st Wing

A six-day-old baby, in need of very urgent specialist care, was transported late this morning from Cagliari to Milan on board a Falcon 50aircraft of the 31st Wing of theair Forcebased in Ciampino.

The little boy, hospitalized at the Monserrato “Duilio Casula” University Hospital in Cagliariwas thus able to reach the IRCCS San Donato hospital in a very short time Milanaccompanied by his father and a medical team for in-flight assistance.

The Air Force plane, which left Ciampino military airport around 11.30 am, reached Cagliari-Elmas airport after about an hour’s flight. Once the boarding procedures for the patient and his companions have been completed, the Falcon 50 it finally landed at Milan-Linate Airport around 1.30pm. From here the newborn was able to reach the Milanese hospital, thanks to an ambulance waiting for him on site, to be immediately entrusted with the specific care he needed.

The emergency flight, requested by Prefecture of Cagliariwas immediately arranged and coordinated by the Summit Situation Room of Air Squadron Commandthe operations room of the Air Force which has among its tasks also that of activating and managing the urgent medical transportsgiving the take-off order to the aircraft that the Armed Forces keep in a state of readiness at various bases in Italy.

Second emergency air rescue within a few hoursthis time a Falcon 900 transports a two-year-old girl in imminent danger of life from Cagliari to Genoa

This is the second emergency flight within a few hours for Air Force aircraft. The air rescue carried out by an aircraft ended around 1.30pm Falcon 50 in favor of a newborn baby only six days old, a second intervention by the crews of the 31st Wing of Ciampino was necessary to transport a two year old girl. This time, an aircraft took off promptly from the Roman military base Falcon 900.

The little girl, hospitalized at the“G. Hospital Company Brotzu” of Cagliari, was transported to Genoa airport together with her mother and a medical team. From here she then reached theGiannina Gaslini Institute. The transport concluded around 4.30pm today.

The 31st Wing of Ciampino it is in fact only one of the flight departments that Forza Armata provides to the community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with aircraft and crews ready to take off in a short time for this type of missions.

Air Force crews and transport aircraft are operational every single day of the year to ensure, where requested and deemed necessary for urgent reasons, the medical transport of people in imminent danger to lifeOf organs or medical teams or, as in this case, people in need of transfer to specialized treatment centers throughout the country. Hundreds of flight hours are carried out every year for this type of intervention, in support of citizens, by the aircraft 31st Wing of Ciampinoof the 14th Sea Practice Wing and of 46th Pisa Air Brigade. Where there are specific operational needs, the Air Force also uses helicopters 15th Wing of Cervia.
