The investigation into corruption which has led to the house arrest, since 7 May, of the president of the Liguria Region Giovanni Toti, the logistics entrepreneur Aldo Spinelli and, in prison, the former president of the Port Authority and former CEO of Iren Paolo Emilio Signorini. Yesterday, Finance heard from the top management of Cosme, the company that held job interviews with voters from Toti’s party at the 2020 regional elections, as people informed on the facts: Daniele Zaffiri, at the time president of Cosme’s board of directors; Cristiano Lavaggi, Iren councilor who procured the talks at the request of the then head of cabinet Matteo Cozzani (under house arrest); the president of the cycling club who paid for the hotel stay of the brothers Italo and Maurizio Testa on behalf of the candidate Stefano Anzalone; an architect who had dealt with the practice of the Punta dell’Olmo beach which involved the Spinellis; and officials of the Region who dealt with Esselunga. In the next few hours, the lawyer Andrea La Mattina, representative of the Liguria Region in the port committee which voted for the thirty-year concession of the Bulk Terminal to Aldo Spinelli, will be heard, again as an informed person. He also made forensic copies of Toti’s cell phones, tablets and computers.
But there is another front: that of the report of the interrogation of Roberto Spinelli, Aldo’s son. In fact, in front of the investigating judge Paola Faggioni and the prosecutor Luca Monteverde, Spinelli junior had explained that Toti “wanted the illicit financing”. As soon as the transcript was read, the lawyers of the two entrepreneurs, lawyers Vaccaro and Vernazza, had written to the investigating judge to rectify the report given that, in their opinion, Spinelli junior would have said “legitimate” financing. Before a possible correction, however, the investigating judge asked the prosecutor’s office to express an opinion.
