Apple will considerably increase the quality and technologies of the iPhone SE 4 or fourth generation without increasing its price: this is the strategy that Cupertino has in store to have its say in the mid-range phone market.
Apple’s next iPhone SE is targeting a starting price under $500, despite a slew of upgrades planned for the device. According to leaker Revegnus, the US launch price for the fourth generation iPhone SE it will probably remain the same as the current model, i.e. $429. At most, he hypothesizes, it could have an increase of around 10%. In any case, Apple’s intention is to keep the price under $500.
Last week, The Information reported that Apple plans to release a redesigned iPhone SE in spring 2025, which will obviously continue to position itself as the “budget” option in the iPhone lineup. The design should undergo important changes compared to the current model and should be similar to the standard iPhone 14, therefore with Touch ID and Home button replaced by Face ID and the notch on the display.
Furthermore, the iPhone SE 4 may have an OLED display instead of LCD, with the screen size potentially increasing from 4.7 to 6.1 inches. Other features planned for the upcoming iPhone SE include a USB-C port and the Action button.
Where iPhone SE 4 saves on price
Where Apple may have managed to keep costs down on the iPhone SE 4 is the display. And in fact, it is assumed that the screen, although OLED, will be cheaper than those used in the iPhone 15, since the panels for the SE will use legacy parts identical to those of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14, so suppliers will not have to support new investments. Display manufacturers are believed to have been competing for panels since at least last August.
It’s time to update the line
The third generation of iPhone SE was released in March 2022. Too much time has passed since then and the design and features of the terminal are also starting to look rather dated. For this reason, the wait for the fourth revision of the iPhone SE is really high: there is likely to be strong demand for a model that will include some of the latest features of Apple’s flagship models.
