With the Scudetto already awarded some time ago, as well as the five Champions League places for next season, it has long become a favorite topic of discussion: What are the combinations that will allow Serie A to bring nine teams to Europe? That is: when is sixth place actually worth the Champions League, and when ninth is worth the Conference League?
Uncertainties that arise from the complicated and somewhat abstruse regulations of UEFA, but also and above all from the favorable conditions of this season finale: that is, the finals reached by Atalanta and Fiorentina, respectively in the Europa League (Wednesday 22 May against Bayer Leverkusen) and in the Conference League (Wednesday 29 May against Olympiacos).
The number of teams that Italy will bring to Europe next season will depend precisely on the results of Atalanta and Fiorentina, as well as on their final placing in the championship: 8 or 9. Resulting in sixth place – i.e. Roma – in the Champions League, without forgetting the possible European value of ninth place, currently occupied by Torino ahead of Napoli.
