«We strongly wanted to propose a moment of cultural meeting – explained the organizers Mariano Giuseppe Sofi And Cosimo Foti for the Borgo di Piale Committee and the Slow Food Versante dello Stretto e Costa Viola APS Convivium – a “chat” with one of the most authentic and engaging writers of Italian fiction. A voice that tells of Calabria, its riches and suggestions, its nature that is both sweet and pungent, harsh and rich territories. Special thanks go to the friends of Parco Masci Pasqualino Pizzimenti for having enthusiastically embraced this presentation and having decided to host this important cultural event.”

Carmine Abate is among the most appreciated and well-known Italian authors throughout the world. He made his debut in Italy with Il Ballo Tondo, which was followed by highly successful collections and novels, such as Il Cercatore di Luce, Il Bacio del Pane, La Collina del Vento, La Festa del Ritorno.

With “A Happy Country” he tells a story of love and hope set in a happy village in Calabria, destined to be swept away for the construction of the steel hub.

“A Happy Country” is a dazzling story of love and anger, of individual destinies and collective destiny, of “violence of memories” and of hope. Because the protagonists are two young people conquered by the strength of utopia who fight against the powerful and do not give up on bringing their commitment to history. Around them, a chorus of powerful and lively voices capture our conscience and make the story of Erava very current and universal. (rrc)
