Around 4pm on Via dei Laghi, in the stretch between via Bruxelles and via Genova towards Marino, a 50-year-old woman from the area on board her Dacia Duster SUV lost control while driving and ended up violently hitting the vehicle in front of her, a Fiat 500 large, with a 30-year-old boy originally from Veneto on board.

In the strong impact, the woman’s car suddenly caught fire with very high flames developing in just a few seconds. The woman managed to get out of the car and save herself.

Some patrols from the Ciampino Local Police immediately intervened on site with Commander Roberto Antonelli directing the rescue operations and regulating traffic by closing the road which was reopened only a short while ago. While a group of volunteers from the Municipal Civil Protection, called by the Municipal officials, took steps to put out the fire. But the car had now been destroyed in the fire that started from the engine compartment after the impact and rear-end collision with the car in front.

After the tests carried out at the Local Police Headquarters, the woman tested positive for alcohol with a blood alcohol level higher than the permitted level, well above the threshold. His license was thus withdrawn and he was reported for driving while intoxicated, as well as having him examined by the 118 health workers. The boy who was driving the Fiat 500 was transported in code yellow with some bruises to the Frascati hospital for necessary treatment and medical checks.
