We start with a nice middle finger to put there, in that place, but which for the occasion goes in favor of cameras. Then, after the Netflix brandaway with them falls, of every kind and type. A close-up of Thibaut Pinot which talks about the most important race in the world and then on with the grimaces of pain, flights and tumbles to launch the second series dedicated to the Tour de France. This is the trailer for the second season of “Tour de France: Unchained”, the series dedicated to the Grande Boucle. This year the title will be “Tour de France: Au coeur du peloton” (“In the heart of the group”) and will be released on June 11th. In the trailer we propose there are very well-known champions, such as Fabio Jakobsen, Mathieu Van der Poel and Tim Pidcock, Julian Alaphilippe and boss Patrick Lefevere.

It’s true that cyclists are modern heroes, gladiators of the third millennium, capable of doing crazy things on their bicycles, but in one minute and seven seconds (1’07”) of video something better could be condensed than a sport which for Netflix, apparently, does not convey fatigue, but pain and death. Don’t joke with the most painful aspect of our sport. We don’t dip our bread in blood to make our sport more pulpy and exciting. It’s an exercise in style that we don’t like.

We also know perfectly well that it is a dangerous discipline, perhaps too dangerous, but it doesn’t seem like a good marketing or narrative choice to us focus on the most vulnerable aspect of our beloved sport, on what we all, including the teams that have chosen to participate in the Netflix production, are trying to fight and hopefully at least partially resolve in the near future. This is not an aspect to be trivialized with impressive trailersspectacularizing or exalting a side that is anything but noble. Let it be done at least out of respect for those kids who died on the roads of the world. At least for them and their families.
