The twelfth stage, Martinsicuro-Fano of 193 kilometers, was won by the Frenchman Alaphilippe of Quik Step. A feat accomplished by the Frenchman who was on the run practically from the start of the stage with Maestri and then capable of finishing it alone, overtaking the Italian on Monte Giove. In particular, a stage that saw the escape of the Frenchman from Quick Step with the Maglia Rosa Group arriving decidedly late, without however affecting Pogacar’s first position too much. Great performance also for Maestri, capable of staying on the wheel with Alaphilippe up to Monte Giove, where he however had to raise the white flag. Ready, off at 2pm. Compact group up to 130 kilometers from the finish line, then a nine-man breakaway with 1 minute and 30 seconds on the pink jersey group of Edoardo Affini, Simon Clarke, Michael Hepburn, Mirco Maestri, Benjamin Thomas, Christian Scaroni, Pelayo Sanchez, Jhonatan Narvaeze Ewan Costiou. At 105 kilometers to the Osimo climb, there are 30 runners in the chasing group with Alaphilippe and Maestri joining them. At 40 kilometers Alaphilippe and Maestri’s advantage becomes important. At 15 kilometers Alaphilippe and Maestri resist the possible incursions of the group and the pink jersey. 11 kilometers from the finish the Frenchman Alaphilippe goes solo together with Maestri who doesn’t give up.
