To try to do one ranking of the best canned tuna in olive oil Gambero rosso tried but only listed tuna in cans and in olive oil and only took into consideration some brands most present and widespread in large-scale supermarkets.

The final judgement, which gave rise to the ranking of the best canned tuna in olive oil sold in Italy, is based exclusively on a blind tasting attended by industry journalists and chefs. Among the ten canned tuna brands considered, in first place Rio Mare was awarded for “extreme delicacy and elegance in the hints of fish which undoubtedly prevails over the oily note” and for its consistency. In second place Corsaro – Yellowfin tuna in olive oil for “its excellent consistency and low salt content”. In third place instead Sardarelli – Yellow fin tuna in olive oil which despite “the important percentage of oil”, is evaluated with “a fairly balanced organoleptic profile and delicate aromas”

In reverse, in last place we find Mareblu – Tuna in olive oil described as a product “which on the olfactory profile is expressed with hints of ripe apricot and medlar and almost overwhelms the notes of the raw material” and from which “little the flavor of tuna emerges”. In second to last place Nostromo – Yellowfin tuna in olive oil due to “A powerful olfactory profile which on the palate, however, is reflected in a bite with a slightly metallic sensation and a delicately bitter finish”.
