After remembering Lazio’s historic first Scudetto last Sunday, exactly 50 years later, the Olympic Stadium in Rome is preparing to pay homage to the former Biancocelesti coach who wrote another very important page in Lazio’s history: Sven-Göran Eriksson. As reported in today’s edition of Corrieredellosport.it, Mister Eriksson responded to the invitation made by the Biancoceleste club, and will be present at the Olympic Stadium in Rome for Lazio’s last championship match. The Biancocelesti will face Sassuolo, but the precise date and time are still to be defined, with the teams fighting for the same objectives, from the Champions League to the Europa League, passing through salvation, who will take to the field at the same time.
Sven-Göran Eriksson, with his return to the Olimpico, will conclude a sort of tour full of affection, after having been a guest of Liverpool, in the charity match between the legends of the English team against Ajax, Gothenburg, Benfica and Sampdoria, accompanied by another former Lazio player, Roberto Mancini. The Biancoceleste Olimpico could not be missed, where in 2000 I won the second Scudetto in Lazio’s history. In recent months, the Swedish coach announced his battle against a bad illness.
It will be a real return for him at the Olimpico, just over a year later. Eriksson had in fact attended the Derby between Lazio and Roma on 19 March 2023, in which the Biancocelesti won 1-0 thanks to Zaccagni’s goal. In two weekends the return to the stadium where he wrote a very important page in the history of the Biancoceleste, on the occasion of Lazio-Sassuolo. One more reason to be present, as well as to witness a challenge that will define the future of Igor Tudor’s Lazio.
