The indictment that the Venice prosecutors served yesterday on Filippo Turetta for the femicide of Giulia Cecchettin is a horror story. Seventy-five stab wounds. Dozens and dozens of wounds that also hit the victim in her face and which testify to the girl’s attempt to defend herself with her hands. Turetta is accused of cruelty “clearly exceeding the homicidal intent”, as well as premeditation made evident by the maniacal control that the murderer exercised over the victim: he had installed a spy app on Giulia’s cell phone and had planned the crime and the escape” at least since November 7th”, i.e. 4 days before the assassination.

The process

The investigations against Filippo Turetta ended yesterday. The charges contested by the Venice prosecutor’s office are of voluntary homicide also aggravated by premeditation and cruelty, possession of the knife, kidnapping and concealment of a corpse, but also stalking. We then go to the trial for which Turetta, due to the change in the charge from voluntary to premeditated murder, will not be able to request the abbreviated trial. The Venice prosecutor Bruno Cherchi explained it. For the setting of the preliminary hearing, the prosecutor added, “there will be the technical time necessary for the defense to check, see, consult the procedural file, which is relevant. There are all the consultancies that will have to be evaluated, even if they have been done with the participation of the defense from the beginning. Once this is done – he said – I think the time will be short”.

Planned femicide

Filippo Turetta “had planned the murder of Giulia Cecchettin in detail, including the hiding of the body, and her escape”. This is what emerged, as explained by the Venice prosecutor, from the investigations of the Carabinieri, from the autopsy, and in particular from the report of the Ris. The indictment also charges the 22-year-old with the crime of stalking. The planning, therefore the premeditation, is highlighted, according to Cherchi, by the documented purchases made by the young man before the criminal act, including road maps, the study of the routes planned through the internet, and among these also the place of abandonment of the body of the girl near Lake Barcis, in Friuli. To escape, Turetta also purchased material for his own survival.

Aggravating cruelty

Filippo Turetta would have attacked the already dying body of Giulia Cecchettin. The girl was also stabbed inside her ex-boyfriend’s car, after having already been hit with a lethal blow. This is the reconstruction of the dynamics of Giulia’s death that emerges from the medico-legal and scientific analyses. A surveillance camera, as already emerged in recent months, had filmed the final stages of the second attack, that of Fossò.
