Last May 9th marked an extraordinary event in the local cultural panorama: an unprecedented show which featured pianists of various age groups, pupils, students and piano teachers, all gathered for the stage “Ligature and Bonds… Fa Sol Do”. This initiative, born from the idea of Prof. Milena Bruno, professor of piano at the Musical High School of Venosa, actively involved students from the Comprehensive Institute of Lavello, Venosa, Barile, from the “Mario Bruno” Musical Institute of Lavello and the Venosa Music High School. It also saw the participation of Flacco’s past pupil Maria Placido, who is about to complete her first level degree at the “CGda Venosa” State Conservatory of Potenza, and the teachers Fabio Sivilia, Ottavia Pastore, Roberto Pisicchio and Luca Gerla. The focal point of the event was the speech of the composer, pianist and jazz musician M° Virginio Aiello, special guest as Teacher Trainer. Aiello, known for his minimal-pop style, listened carefully to the students’ performances of his songs, underlining the importance of the connection between art and education.

“The educational aspect in the training path with and through music is fundamental,” said Aiello, underlining the intrinsic value of music as an educational and aggregating tool thanks to the “harmonic bonds” that are established during ensemble music. During the show, the students performed a wide range of pieces with different interpretations, ranging from great masters such as Clementi, Chopin, Schumann, Albeniz and Tchaikowsky, up to contemporary composers such as Kacuaturian, Kabalewsky, Satie and Maestro Aiello himself. This variety of repertoire allowed students to immerse themselves in the vast cultural background of classical and contemporary music, learning to consider each piece as a work of art to be explored and understood in its full meaning. The Headmaster, Prof. M. Carlomagno, underlined the importance of cultivating students’ talent within the rules, quoting Aiello’s words: “Talent is freedom within the rules”. This concept, fundamental in the educational field, reflects the importance of educating students not only in the art of musical interpretation, but also in respecting the rules and discipline necessary to excel in their educational path. To conclude the event, the project coordinator, Prof. M. Bruno, highlighted that true beauty lies in the eyes of young people who approach and experience art, building a deep bond with music that will remain with them for Always. This experience, in addition to being a moment of sharing and artistic expression, represents a precious contribution to the cultural and human education of the students involved, confirming the fundamental role that music and art play in their growth path.
