«What happened a year ago, how it changed our lives»

What matters when there seems to be nothing left of your life? When the wisteria-colored rose found with difficulty and just planted is eaten by a landslide; when all the apricot trees sink into the earth; when the road to get home no longer exists; when salvation lies in a vuvuzela played from the roof in the direction of a helicopter? What does it matter when, with a six-month-old baby in your womb and two other small children, you see the water rising above the third floor of your house and the smell of sewage becomes unbearable? Other women, other men and other children who helped on the streets, swam, cleaned and rebuilt without knowing Saturdays, Sundays and holidays; they are the ones who count. The stories of ten of these people were collected in «What matters – Ten portraits one year after the flood in Emilia-Romagna», the volume edited by the Region’s Information and Communication Agency with the shots by photographer Marco Onofri and the preface by Daria Bignardi. Printed in two thousand copies, it will be distributed free of charge to libraries in Emilia-Romagna.
