Juventus wins the 77th edition of the Italian Cup by beating Atalanta 1-0 in the final. At the Olympic stadium in Rome, a goal from Vlahovic decides in the very first minutes of the game.
Gasperini without Scamacca lines up his eleven like this: Carnesecchi; De Roon, Hien, Djimsiti; Zappacosta, Ederson, Pasalic, Ruggeri; Koopmeiners, De Ketelaere; Lookman. Allegri surprisingly chooses Nicolussi Caviglia and Iling and responds with: Perin; Gatti, Bremer, Danilo; Cambiaso, McKennie, Nicolussi Caviglia, Rabiot, Iling Jr.; Vlahovic, Church.
Ready to go, after just 4 minutes Juventus passes: nice through ball from Cambiaso for Vlahovic who escapes behind Hien and face to face with Carnesecchi pierces him with a right.
The match goes on the path preferred by Allegri’s Juve, who doesn’t need to reveal themselves and keeps Atalanta’s attempts at bay, who try with Lookman and Pasalic but never manage to worry Perin. Indeed, it was Gatti who came close to doubling the lead from a corner, shortly after Vlahovic’s goal.
At the start of the second half Gasperini put Toure on for De Ketelaere and Atalanta became more insistent: immediately a deflected shot from Lookman ended just wide of the post, then it was Koopmeiners who came close to equalizing with a header. But Juve remains dangerous on the counterattack, and Carnesecchi neutralizes Vlahovic served by Chiesa.
Vlahovic also scores again in the 73rd minute, but the VAR cancels it for millimeter offside. And then Atalanta regains strength, great flash from Lookman and a shot that hits the post in the 80th minute. Juve responds with a beautiful cross from Miretti. At the end Allegri, furious with the referees, was sent off. But the Dea’s attacks were unsuccessful and after 9′ of injury time it was Juve who celebrated, thus winning their fifteenth Italian Cup. Gasperini’s team hopes to make up for it next Wednesday in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen.
