Alcamo, the fire prevention ordinance comes into force from today

The prevention ordinance against forest fires came into force today in Alcamo as well as in other municipalities in the province of Trapani.
remains in force until October 31st. As usual, the measure became necessary with the arrival of the summer season which entails a high risk of fires in uncultivated and/or abandoned land, to the detriment of both public safety and the forest and agricultural heritage.

The administration calls on citizens to follow behaviors capable of preventing dangerous situations – starting fires, and to adopt all those initiatives aimed at avoiding danger to public safety.

Between 15 May and 31 October 2024, near woods, uncultivated and/or bushy land and on agricultural land within the municipal territory, it is absolutely forbidden to: leave waste or herbaceous residues piled up near woods or uncultivated land and/or or bushy; light fires, explode mines, use open flame or electric devices to cut metals; use engines, incinerator stoves that produce sparks or embers; smoking and throwing cigarette butts from vehicles traveling on the roads or carrying out any other operation that could create a fire hazard; use fireworks, on the occasion of holidays and solemnities, in areas other than those identified; burn stubble, herbaceous material, brushwood, pruning or gardening residues or use flammable substances in the aforementioned areas; accomplish every
operation that creates immediate fire danger.

Here’s what the ordinance provides – The owners, tenants, tenants and/or holders in any capacity of uncultivated land within the municipal territory MUST ensure the cleaning of the land and the removal of brushwood, brambles, branches and/or dry vegetation of any kind or any material that is source of fire, especially those adjacent to transport road networks or urbanized areas, which represent a tangible danger for the spread of fires; MUST keep the land, at least for a 20 meter band from the embankment and/or road verge, free from brushwood, brambles, branches and/or dry vegetation of any kind or any combustible material, as well as remove all residues resulting from such cleaning, depositing them inside your property at a safe distance and no less than 100 meters from the embankments and/or docks; In order to avoid the spread of fires, they MUST eliminate brushwood and dry vegetation around buildings, systems and from property boundaries, for a buffer zone of no less than 10 metres; the obligation is extended to insistent areas or close to
energy, telephone or water transmission systems and lines, public roads, railways, with regard, also, in the case of land boundaries in general, to the cutting of plants, brambles, shrubs and dry branches that protrude onto roadsides with mandatory removal of the resulting material.

The owners and/or managers of cereal and/or fodder crops are required to create a plowed strip at least three meters wide and such as to ensure that the fire does not spread to the surrounding and/or neighboring areas. It is absolutely forbidden to light fires from 15 May to 31 October 2024;
Only from 15 May to 30 June and from 1 October to 31 October, upon notification to the local Forestry Detachment, the burning of agricultural or forestry material coming from mowing, pruning or cleaning is permitted, according to the appropriate precautions.
