RIONERO, POST OFFICES STILL CLOSED AFTER THE EXPLOSION

«Inconvenience for citizens and economic activities, also the subject of a worthy initiative to collect signatures»

Let’s return to Rionero in Vulture, to once again deal with the Post Office issue and the inconveniences that the citizens of the area are experiencing since, on the night of February 21st, some criminals blew up an ATM at the Post Office.

«Dfter having already done so continuously for almost two months now, we have once again urged the management of Poste Italiane, in the persons of those responsible for institutional relations for the South, to arrange for the reopening of the central office in Via Taverna Penta as soon as possible – states Mayor Mario Di Nitto with a firm tone – We have made ourselves bearers of the understandable discomfort of many citizens and economic activities, recently also the subject of a shareable initiative to collect signatures. Finally, we were assured that we will be offered precise indications in the coming days».

In fact, as the Mayor mentioned, we have mobilized with a signature collection in order to urge the necessary interventions. Di Nitto adds in this regard: «As you know, the central office of this city has now been closed to the public for several weeks following an attempted robbery which caused the explosion of the Postamat ATM. We are aware of the need to carry out renovation works inside the premises but from what we have observed and reported to us, to date there has been no substantial intervention.”

Already in March the Mayor wrote to Poste Italiane «For find out the reopening times by sending a formal request. Informally, however, we have already been told that the technical checks have been completed and that work will begin shortly. We were also told that, given the need to intervene, the opportunity is being taken to modernize the entire Office and give it a new look, with the expectation that it should be reopened to the public within a month – Di Nitto announced 2 months ago – We will continue to monitor the progress of the timing, reserving the right to request further explanations if necessary”.

Which is what happens today.

The note that came from the Mayor’s desk and addressed to Poste, already reported the difficulties of citizens, temporarily deprived of the service: «From what has been observed and reported to us, to date there has been no substantial intervention. We are constantly affected by reports from citizens who complain about the urgency of reopening to the public due to the enormous inconveniences they have been experiencing for weeks, so in requesting your maximum commitment in speeding up the procedures aimed at carrying out the necessary works, we ask you to provide us with every information on the status of implementation and progress of the same”.

The criminal event occurred around 1.30 am on the night of February 21st. A Carabinieri patrol engaged in territory control activity heard the explosion and immediately went to the site of the explosion. Unfortunately, the thieves had already fled, managing to take away, according to initial checks conducted with the office manager, only a few thousand euros compared to the over 50 thousand available in the ATM. The blow, therefore, was limited thanks to the intervention of the military personnel. What remains, months later, however, is the inconvenience caused to citizens by the provision of services at the post office, thinking, in particular, of elderly people with difficulty in traveling, workers who are unable to reconcile working hours, and those they are forced to move elsewhere.
