We haven’t even reached the halfway point
2024 F1 season but, to date, the current year has already proved to be full of twists and sensational news, greatly animating enthusiasts and professionals. After the sensational coup achieved by Ferrari which, with the hiring of Lewis Hamilton which stirred up the drivers’ market and started a domino effect, the technicians’ market also appears to be in turmoil and ready to offer surprises. In this sense it is impossible not to mention Adrian Newey who, after various indiscretions, decided to leave Red Bull at the end of the season, probably due to his discontent resulting from the tensions that arose following the power struggle within the team.
A farewell which, inevitably, sparked a media uproar, with insiders hunting for the possible destination of the English coach, ready to evaluate the various offers on his table. Offers which, to date, place Adrian at a crossroads: choosing Aston Martin, which is banking on him (also with a sensational economic offer) for a relaunch and for the opening of a new winning cycle, and Ferrari, currently the destination more likely, who has been pressing the coach for some time to bring him, after years of courtship, to Italy and put the icing on the cake to the restructuring of the Racing Department started by Fred Vasseur.
A decision that “The Genius” he will only take after a period of break which he declared he needed after years of total involvement in the world championship Circus. A break in the now former Red Bull will want to unplug from F1 and focus both on his family and on his passions, such as those of vintage car races which, last weekend, led him to compete with his Lotus 49B in the GP Historique of Monaco. An event which, although contested out of passion, was meticulously prepared by the brilliant British designer, fine-tuning his driving in the Principality with a simulator borrowed in the previous weeks. This was revealed in the podcast “Formula for Success”Eddie Jordan.
“I have to reveal a secret even though I’m sure he will kill me for saying it. He has borrowed a simulator for his car, so he can race on the track in Monaco, with his car, even from home so he can make sure everything is perfect. Otherwise he couldn’t do tests”.
A story, that of the Irishman, with which he hinted at Newey’s perfectionist soul, focused on details both in his work and in his passions. A modus operandi which, in fact, leads him to do well (if not excel) in all the sectors in which he engages.
“And that will tell you how seriously he takes it. So anyone who thinks people come in unprepared – Adrian Newey doesn’t – actually understands exactly what’s going on in the car on the track.”.
