While we continue to discuss the real impact of Game Pass on Microsoft’s earnings (given that the Redmond company has just closed Tango Gameworks despite the latter churning out the Hi-Fi Rush hit for the service), some rumors emerge from the internet on the future of the subscription service.

The rumors in question come from Rand at Thor 19, host of the Xbox Two podcast together with Jez Corden. During the last episode he stated that Game Pass is about to get a price increase, therefore finding ourselves in agreement with Tom Warren of The Verge, who a few days ago had already spoken of a similar eventuality. If true, this would be the second surge in a relatively short time, as Game Pass prices have already risen in 2023.

Rand at Thor 19 also added that Microsoft is reportedly considering the introduction of a new tier in addition to those that are already available. Although he said he was sure of this eventuality, he nevertheless confessed that he had no information on the type of plan that could be introduced. According to some it could be a free entry plan with advertising, an all in all plausible hypothesis in light of the direction that some video game companies are taking in recent times: EA has admitted to evaluating the introduction of advertising in video games, provided it is done in a reasoned manner, while Roku has patented a system for in-game ads. It is not even the first time that Xbox Game Pass and advertising have been talked about, but we would like to underline that at the moment there is no certainty on the matter.

Leaving aside the rumors about the future for a moment, we close with something more concrete, reminding you that there are already games confirmed on Game Pass in June 2024.
