Collapse and fear at the Campania shopping center in Marcianise, in the province of Caserta. The episode occurred around 10.30pm yesterday, when the commercial areas, shops and stores had already been closed to the public, but many people were still present in the area. No one was injured as initially thought.
According to what we learn, a portion of the false ceiling near the central square of the structure suddenly collapsed, falling to the ground together with the systems. Fortunately, there were no longer any customers or staff inside the mall.
The first to notice what had happened were the security guards from the company that deals with the security of the shopping center who raised the alarm, taking steps to cordon off the area in the meantime. The police and firefighters intervened on site and worked all night to make the area safe and remove other fragments at risk of collapse. According to what the management of the Campania Center says, what caused the collapse of the structure in the Piazza Campania area was a tendon that came loose in a corner, causing panels to fall from the false ceiling in a few minutes.
