AtEurovision Song Contest 2024 Switzerland triumphs with Nemo and his song “The Code”. Very broad consensus from national juries and televoting for the 24-year-old artist and his song which, with a metaphor of the binary computer code, represents self-acceptance and non-binary gender people, in which the musician recognizes himself. There was nothing to be done for Italy which with Angelina Mango and the Sanremo winning song “La Noia” finished seventh in the rankings, despite the juries placing it in fourth place. On the podium Croatia with Baby Lasagna in second place and Ukraine with the duo Alyona Alyona and Jerry Heil.
Switzerland’s victory with Nemo
On the Malmo Area stage, Nemo rejoiced by waving a flag with yellow, white, purple and black colors, or the non-binary flag. “The Code talks about the journey I began to reach the conclusion that I felt neither a man nor a woman” the artist explained before the start of the festival.
“Finding my identity has been perilous and intricate, but nothing is better than the freedom you feel the moment you you claim to be ‘off the rails’. It is an honor for me to represent Switzerland at Eurovision, a stage on which to build bridges of communication between cultures and generations. This is why it is so important for me, a person with a fluid gender identity, but also for all members of the LGBTQIA+ community” declared the 24-year-old from Bienne, who brought the crystal microphone back to Switzerland, after the victories of Lys Assia and Celine Dion.
Angelina Mango seventh
Even with the ovation of the Eurovision audience for his rousing interpretation of “La Boredom”, Angelina Mango finished seventh in the standingsa position in which Rai perhaps also had an impact, as on the eve of the final it accidentally revealed the Italian televoting data largely in favor of Israel.
The winner of Sanremo had obtained from the national juries 164 points, which were worth fourth placebut received only 104 from the televoting, losing positions in the ranking.
